Open your electricity/gas/water accounts with the current suppliers using your move-in meter readings, then decide if you want to switch. Save details below for easy reference.

1) Take opening readings + photos

Record the date & time and take clear photos of each meter display.
Keep the photos somewhere safe — they’re your evidence if there’s a dispute.
Give these opening reads to the current suppliers when you set up the accounts.
You can switch later; the opening supplier only bills from your start date to the switch date.

2) Find current suppliers (UK)

Use the official look-ups if you don’t know who supplies the property:

Find My Supplier (Gas) Find electricity network operator (then ask who the supplier is) Ofgem: Find your energy supplier Find your water/sewerage company

Note: water isn’t switchable in England/Wales; you just register with the regional company.

4) Switching tips

Most switches complete in ~5–15 working days. You’ll get a final bill from the opening supplier.
